BioCurex (BOCX) Closer to a Breakout, But Why?

Filed under: — SmallCapNetwork Editor @ 9:44 am

We first started to talk about BioCurex (OTCBB: BOCX) and this possibility in an August 16th blog entry, which just so happens to be the pivot point for the entire market. By that time, the stock had already posted a few days worth of solid gains on stronger volume. Since then, we’ve seen some outstanding follow-through. I think this upward thrust may finally be the real deal.

Why? Some of the barriers from before didn’t hold the stock down this time. Namely, BOCX is well above all of its key moving average lines. We haven’t seen this much ’stick-to-it-iveness’ since early 2006 (and even that was a half-hearted move).  The volume behind the rally seems to be growing as well.

Each day that passes with even just an incremental gain, I believe, makes BOCX a little less risky. I already liked it quite a bit, but I think the market is finally warming up to the idea as well - now that there’s something to build on.

The reason for the sudden strength? Ultimately, I think investors are finally realizing BioCurex is actually pretty close to getting their diagnostic research to a monetizable status. The recent press releases have all alluded to it. However, there’s another possible reason that’s been brought up by a couple of our readers.

Keep in mind we’re not commenting on the validity of this rationale, nor are we saying the logic is problem-free. We are, however, laying it all out there - in the interest of letting our readers know the facts as well as the potential rumors that may be influencing BOCX’s trading level.

And the rumor? Some Abbott (NYSE: ABT) employees are scheduled to speak at an ISOBM (International Society for Oncodevelopmental Biology & Medicine) conference in mid-September. Their topic, however, features RECAF - a BioCurex development - and its use in radioimminoassays and chemiluminescent assays. If it rings a bell, it might be because BioCurex went through quite a bit to convert their RECAF-based test into a chemiluminescent-friendly tool….at Abbott’s request.

The assumption is that this bodes well for BioCurex and its RECAF cancer test, suggesting it works, and is finally ready to use.

At the same time, we do want to tell you BioCurex has said nothing to this effect. Then again, they couldn’t if they wanted to. Biotech companies who are presenting something new at such a conference are often prohibited from making a public statement about the presentation (or its purpose) until afterwards.

The risk to the assumption is simple - maybe BioCurex isn’t saying anything just because there’s nothing to say. We do find it curious though. This is an obscure connect-the-dots, yet coincides quite well with when the stock started to move. If there’s nothing to it, a lot of people have been fooled.

Given that BioCurex makes for an outstanding speculative idea even without the ISOBM rumor, I know I’d sure be interested in taking a swing. The chart alone tells me something is brewing.

  1. The ISOBM rules for presentations prohibit publication of the presented material until it is later published in a supplemental issue of Tumor Biology. Abbott Diagnostics would have no need to comment upon the presentation so any publication of the event would rest with BioCurex. From earlier SEC filings, there is a milestone event upon completion of the feasibility study. The presentation at the ISOBM would indicate that the RECAF test is now beyond feasibility and much closer to attaining FDA approval.

There are now several groups that are close to perfecting a drug treatment to cure cancer using the receptor for alpha-fetoprotein (RECAF) as the delivery method to the cancer cells. Check out Constab’s website.

BioCurex is also working on therapeutics using RECAF. If in fact the cancer therapy using RECAF is successful, there would be 100% correlation between the RECAF test and the therapy that could be administered at the earliest stages of cancer before any clinical signs occur. We may be closer to a cure for most cancers than many realize.

  2. Hmmm. So on 9/4/2007 you post a comment and say, “We think the wisest and most feasible sale right now is from BOCX compared to all of our holdings….but there’s nothing we think is particularly wrong with owning it.” and on the same day you post an editorial and proclaim, “I think this upward thrust may finally be the real deal.” This is dubious, to say the least.

    Editor’s response: Huh?

No offense Joe, but you’re picking and choosing things in an effort to find a conflict. But, you took things out of context when you did.

Like I said, the staff at the SCN lives on the proceeds from the stock we receive. As much as I’d like to take a stock certificate down to the local grocery store and buy some food with it, they generally insist on cash or credit. What may be an investment for others is income for us.

Nothing changes our statement though - of all our stocks, selling BOCX is the most feasible. It’s liquid, not restricted, and we’re not going to create a landslide/avalanche when we sell it. (Something we have to be careful with given the size of some of our holdings.)

Despite the fact that we’re selling some (and very little at a time, I might add), we still feel investors could do quite well with it in the near and not-so-near future. We’re trying to hold onto as much of it as we can….but we also have to pay people.

That being said, we sold some several weeks ago at prices well under where they are now. And to my knowledge, we have not sold any in the wake of this big rally (one of the directors makes that call though). We sell it periodically in all environments - advantageous and disadvantageous.

I assure you we’re not trying to manipulate anything. If we were, we’d be bullishly preaching about Zupintra and CEL-SCI, both of which have been in the gutter lately.

  3. Any news on CVM…It’s slowing drifting down.

Editor’s response: None that we’re aware of. CEL-SCI has been strangely quiet of late…too quiet. They have been known to strike like lightning with news though. Personally, I think the time to step in is when nobody else is thinking about it - it may be the calm before the storm. Given how long it’s been since they’ve stirred the pot, we anticipate something soon.

  4. What happened since yesterday?

Editor’s response: Profit taking, I believe….though it’s not sticking. Notice how the stock has reclaimed most of what was lost on an intra-day basis. Personally, I’m happy to see a washout day like this, especially when it’s followed up with strength. This changes nothing in my eyes.

  5. in my opinion bocx is starting to look really good. why are you selling??????

Editor’s response: Without getting too deep on a personal level, we gotta’ eat. We agree - BOCX is looking better and better, but our paychecks (and other expenses) are mostly paid from stock proceeds. We think the wisest and most feasible sale right now is from BOCX compared to all of our holdings….but there’s nothing we think is particularly wrong with owning it. Believe me - we’re selling as little as possible at a time.
