If it were up today because the whole energy sector was up today, I might not be impressed by the fact that Samson Oil & Gas Limited (ADR) (AMEX:SSN) is higher by 10%. Energy stocks aren't up today at all though... SSN shares are higher all on their own. That's bullish clue #1.
Bullish clue #2 for Samson Oil & Gas Limited is that fact that this small cap stock has cleared the resistance level of $0.69. (It did so in April too, but left behind an unhealthy gap that wound up being closed earlier this month - this one's healthier.) While I'd prefer to see if SSN can set up a base here above $0.69, today's strength is a good sign.

Yes, BioCryst Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:BCRX) is up 8% today. Take a look at the chart of BCRX below though.... you may decide not to be impressed.
Why's that? Because we've seen it all before - recently, in fact. Each pop from this small cap stock pretty much went nowhere, contained by what's barely a bullish trading range. Oh, there's room for a little more upside before the ceiling at $8.61 is hit again. In the grand scheme of things though, BioCryst Pharmaceuticals is just another stock stuck in a box. Don't confuse a ricochet with a rebound.
And finally, do we interpret today's 2.7% gain from Psychiatric Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ:PSYS) as a hint that all the volatility is behind it, or not? While I don't want to say we won't see the wild swings going forward, I do feel reasonably confident that the company's past and future (forecasted) earnings are reliable enough to consider PSYS a buy. Psychiatric Solutions boasts a trailing P/E of 15.7, and a forward-looking P/E of 13.2. And it's been in positive-earnings territory (and close to or better then EPS estimates) for the last four quarters.
I don't need any more convincing - I'll take today's nice move from PSYS at face value and look for more of the same in the near future.
