As earnings season winds down, China GrenTech (GRRF) and Craft Brewers Alliance (HOOK) really stand out today against modest broad market trading. Even though Japan's Nikkei 225 stock average added 80.14 points or 0.8% to set a 10-month high of 10,597.33, U.S. markets were tame.

But...

Gaining more than 40% ($1.64) in early trading, China GrenTech Corp. Ltd., (GRRF) http://www.grentech.com.cn/ easily topped its 3-Month average daily trading volume of 70,009 shares by ten times within hours of the open and had surpassed 2,208,489 at the time of this writing. GRRF has a new market cap of $5.58 million and its shares are currently trading on the Nasdaq in the $5.75 range.

GRRF Q2 09 numbers released in its report late yesterday brought the buyers out this morning. GRFF reported a total revenue increase of 127% year-over-year and a gross profit increase of %70. The GRFF wireless segment increased revenues by 116% and revenues from its base station products increased by 182%. Those are some numbers. GRRF diluted EPS was $0.08.

GRRF makes and sells wireless coverage products and sells its services in the People's Republic of China. Its wireless coverage products include repeaters, trunk amplifiers, and base station amplifiers.

At $5.75, GRRF will set a new 52-week high. Its 52-week low was $0.01 set on 09-29-08. At $5.75, GRRF is ahead of both its 50-day and 200-day moving averages.

and speaking of earnings...

Gaining 28.46% ($0.76) this morning is Craft Brewers Alliance Inc., (HOOK) http://www.craftbrewers.com/ which set a new market cap of $58 million. HOOK is currently trading in the $3.44 range. HOOK has an average daily trading volume of 17,713 shares and that amount had soared past 216,000 by mid-session. Dramatic.

The pre-market buzz on this stock was based on a scheduled conference call today at 11:30 EST to report on Q2 09 numbers.

HOOK brews and sells beers with breweries located in Portland, Oregon; Woodinville, Washington; and Portsmouth, New Hampshire. HOOK sells its products under the Widmer Brothers Beers, Redhook Beers, and Kona Brewing brands.

At $3.44, HOOK is below its 52-week high of $4.42 set on 08-14-08 and is above its 52-week low of $0.85 set on 03-11-09. At $3.44, HOOK is above both its 50-day and 200-day moving averages. HOOK has trailing twelve month revenues of $97 million. HOOK is widely held by insiders and its float a third of its shares out. I would like to see more shares in the public float.
